Macedonia
I traveled to Macedonia in April and August 1995 to spend time in its capital of Skopje, visiting an ethnically mixed area of Tetova, Tenova, as well as covering the refugee camp in northern Macedonia in April 1999.

Bulgaria
I traveled to Bulgaria to cover several stories: the Centenarians from the mountains of Bulgaria; the Koukeri festival to ward off evil spirits at the start of spring, both in March 1998; Icon restorers in Sophia and the Rila Monastery in Rila in April 1997. I also documented a preschool and music school that received funding from an NGO.

Greek Island of Pserimos

Croatia
I first visited Croatia in October 1994 to document the Pope’s first visit to Croatia in Zagreb. I also returned to travel to Split, Makarska and the island of Brac in August 1995. I returned again along with the International Red Cross/Red Crescent to document the return of the first non-Croatian residents allowed back to their home after the war in early 2001.

Czech Republic
I first arrived in the Czech Republic in November 1993 and visited Prague, Litomysl, Brno and Cesky Krumlov (unfortunately film from Prague and Brno were lost). I later returned to cover the meeting of the IMF/World Bank meeting and expected 20-30,000 protesters in September 2000. Unexpectedly encountered President Vaclav Havel on the street with body guards.
